As a continuation of my work in spring 2021, I set out to explore three-dimensionality in painting with monochromatic features. Thick white paint is placed on top of black base layers and then torn away, which allows the viewer to see the black paint on a separate physical plane from the top layer. The painting invites the viewer to look at it as a work that exists in multiple fields of physical space and not as one two-dimensional object. With this piece, I chose to work purely in black and white to push myself to create depth without relying on color.
